As the transfer window continues to heat up, its not just new incomings that are drawing the attention of Chelsea fans, the ‘loan army’ continues to be in the spotlight but unfortunately not for good reasoning.

Given FIFA’s new loan rules of allowing a maximum of seven non academy trained players on loan the subject has become fragile, especially under Chelsea’s stockpiling plan. Out of those seven on loan, over the years they have cost the club upwards of £220m.

Like with any loan there is always an element of risk. A prime risk this summer was loaning Lukaku out once again to a different club, in this current instance it seems to be working and Chelsea finally look set to recoup some money this summer but when it comes to trying to develop players for the parent club, the outcome can get complicated.

And complicated is just what one loan within the Premier League is happening, Andrey Santos joined Nottingham Forest at the end of the summer transfer window and since then has just played 7 minutes in the Premier League.

Movement looks to be happening as today, The Athletic have reported that Chelsea will be recalling the nineteen year old Brazilian as soon as the transfer window opens in January. The report states that the blues have a ‘break clause’ and Forest have been involved in financial penalties for not playing Santos.

Once Santos has been recalled, Chelsea have a decision to make regarding his next club as the current international slots are full and if no compromise can be made he will either stay or have to find a club within England. It will one to watch in the coming weeks.
