Chelsea Women’s manager, Emma Hayes, is set to leave the club after 11 years at the head of the table.
One of Hayes’ key strikers during her time at the club had plenty to say on the matter heading into the second fixture of this years Women’s Champions League group stages.
Sam Kerr, 30, has been at the club since 2020 and is just 10 competitive goals away from equaling the top scorer mark set by teammate Fran Kirby.
Kerr joined Hayes for the press conference ahead of their match on Thursday against Paris FC and was asked how she felt regarding the upcoming departure of Hayes come the end of the season.
Kerr said “It’s hard to see her go but we wish her all the best”.
Following a look of sarcasm towards her boss, Hayes asked a follow up question “Do you mean it?”
Kerr responds bluntly “No”.
Following some laughter, Kerr discusses the prospect of playing international football against Hayes by saying “the U.S. would never want to play us…but hopefully now they pick us to play so I can visit the USA a bit more”
Emma Hayes’ reaction shows that this behavior from Sam Kerr is nothing new with it being smiles all round.
Chelsea Women are currently unbeaten in their last 16 competitive matches.
The blues’ opening European fixture came against Real Madrid, ending in a 2-2 draw with plenty of drama throughout.
Hayes’ side will be hoping to continue their unbeaten run when they welcome French side Paris FC, who are in good form away from home with 8 wins on the bounce heading into Thursday’s match up.
