Saturday’s defeat to Newcastle was a tough one to take all round, from the manner of defeat to Reece James seeing red. There can be no positives to take into next week with the club in a dire need of a lift.

Shortly after the game yesterday, Reece James issued an apology on Instagram for his action and the overall manor of defeat. James said;

“I take full responsibility for my red card today, two silly mistakes. Another lesson for me to learn. I’d like to apologise to the fans and my teammates. The performance today was far below our standards but this game does not define us! We’ve made huge improvements this season against many top teams. We’ll be back next weekend.”

Amongst the replies was Thiago Silva, another player who was caught up in a mistake, he replied to James; “I love you my capi, we go again.”

Chelsea will look to bounce back on Sunday as the blues host Brighton at Stamford Bridge but will be without James as he serves his one game suspension, he will be sat next to Marc Cucurella on the sidelines as he picked up his 5th yellow card of the season.
